Zio La Familia Restaurant – Being seated at the Chef’s Table for a Hearty, Winter Menu Tasting

On the 15th of May, we had the privilege of experiencing the 2019 winter menu at Zio La Famiglia restaurant in the heart of Hyde Park. Walking into the restaurant, we were not only greeted by our extravagant surrounding, but also with martini Proseccos as welcome drinks.

Before moving onto the sensational food, it is important to note that the head chef, Caitlin Drake, is 20 years old. It is incredible to hear that people at her age are making it that big in the culinary industry. The food that was laid out on the chefs table was all about Caitlin and her story – which we absolutely loved because it gave the meal as sense of authenticity.

For starters, we had the most divine gnocchi followed by an exquisite avocado sorbet. For mains included hot pork shoulder brioche buns, torta della nonna, lamb fillet and different pastas, but nothing could beat the red snapper which was infused with Italian herbs and lemon zest. Adding to the whole experience, the owner of Zio has his own pasta at the restaurant called “Alissandro” which was more than tasty.

To top off the whole meal, they served their signature Nutella cheesecake which was bursting with the most distinctive, bold, rich and inspired flavours. It was a sweet, delicacy of a masterpiece.

Sitting with us at the Chef’s table were some very influential people from the Sunday Times to The Sowetan Live and Prestige Magazine.
The entire ordeal was just amazing and a great experience. Zio’s winter menu has our stamp of approval.
