Wasabi Create masterful authentic Oriental Dishes

Wasabi is a Fusion, Oriental restaurant specializing in Authentic Japanese, Thai and Cantonese cuisine. These dishes have been masterfully created by authentic Oriental chefs, who have learnt this ancient craft as children, passed down by their forefathers. Where necessary, flavours have been delicately enhanced to suit the Western palate.

Wasabi is run by an owner who introduced sushi into his restaurants 22 years ago, before Wasabi opened its doors in 2014. After conveniently relocating to the Mall of Africa in 2016, their venue can seat up to 138 guests and is split into an upstairs and downstairs area with a private function room that has its own bar.

Situated in the outside food court of the Mall, you will be exposed to the most magical sunsets which are perfect for those warm summer days. Enjoy a modern yet cosy ambience indoors with the eclectic décor and attention to detail. Attentive staff will give you a fast, professional service with just the right amount of special treatment. Wasabi takes pride in perfecting every aspect of your experience, not just their food!

Wasabi’s food is flavourful and made with artisanal hands, a taste journey like no other. Fresh Oysters, a classic start to your meal or, if you’re feeling adventurous you can have it either as a Vodka, Tequila or Jalapeno Oyster Shot. The Hong Kong Pears are another tasty starter option and come as 3 potato dumplings stuffed with duck, prawn and chicken. Now on to mains, the most popular being the Peking duck. Sticking to traditional Chinese recipes from 1864, the duck is marinated over 48 hours before being cooked in a specialized high-pressure gas oven to allow for that crispy brown skin and moist meat. It’s then plated the traditional way with pancakes, carrots, spring onion and cucumber, served with Plum and Hoisin sauce separately.

Wasabi is well known for their incredible signature sushi concepts, unlike anything else you’ll find in Joburg or even South Africa. These dishes include Berry Roses, Tiger vs Dragon and Springbok Roses to name a few. With so many distinctive dishes available, we’re sure you’ll be going back for a 2nd, 3rd and even a 10th visit to try them all.

Of course, no meal can go without that perfect thirst-quenching pairing. The vast variety of wines available can be expertly paired with your dish of choice by simply asking the waiter for their recommendation.

The restaurant is 100% behind sustainable fishing and, to allow for the freshest taste, their salmon is never frozen and is imported every 2 days. Only the best ingredients are used in their exotic dishes, such as; Original Kewpie Mayo, Kikkoman Soy Sauce and imported Chinese Sushi Rice.

From the most unique sushi dishes to the tastiest flambéed steaks, they cater for every palate! Join Wasabi for a meal or one of their craft Gins – whatever the occasion, their friendly staff, experienced chefs and their exquisite venue is ready!
