De Vere Cotswold Water Park Hotel, a hotel as spectacular as its surroundings

April 13, 2018

The De Vere Cotswold Water Park Hotel is set in a picturesque location. Surrounded by tranquil nature and 152 lakes, what could be more perfect for a relaxing weekend away.

The entrance was spectacular, it was very spacious and bright. The interior was modern and clean cut with a beautiful display of flowers. We were given a warm and friendly welcome by Shannon – a beautifully spoken lady full of smiles. She took our names, checked us in and presented us with our room key. She offered help with our luggage and if we needed anything we were to give her a ring or pop down to reception as it was open 24 hours.

Off to find room 306, which we were very excited to see and was on the top floor. We got the lift, looked for the signs towards room 306 and to my surprise there was a private lounge area and balcony! There are 328 guest rooms and suites available and we were lucky enough to get a suite.

I opened the door and it was breathtaking, the room was so spacious and the views were spectacular. The large window at the front was heaven; showing off the stunning grounds, the bed was facing out onto this and I could not wait to wake up to the sunrise. The decor was clean with a rich touch and perfectly presented. There was a huge sofa at the far end of the room, a coffee table and a huge selection of glossy magazines; which I thought was a really great touch and gave a relaxing vibe. There were two TV’s in the suite can you believe, along with a tea and coffee station. I don’t think there was anything else you could wish for!

We had the most spectacular view from the bed and were looking forward to experiencing a spectacular sunrise.

We ventured out for a stroll around the lakes, there was no short cutting, but it was a perfect picture opportunity! The views of the lake were out of this world.

Back to our suite for a short rest before dressing for dinner, we were hungry, our lakeside walk built up an enormous appetite.

We had dinner booked in the Brasserie for 7:30pm. We went down early so we could take some pictures before it got dark. We were greeted for dinner and escorted to our seats – a window view where we ordered some drinks to start with, while we perused the menu and naturally I had a prosecco, who wouldn’t on a Saturday night away?!

The menu choice was simple, but catered for all needs, including vegetarian. The variety was from pizza, pasta, salad and India cuisine to traditional British dishes. We ordered a chicken caesar salad and piri piri chicken and chips.

The waiting staff were very attentive and made amends to my caesar salad, removing the anchovies; as I do not eat fish. The portions were generous so there was no way we would be getting hungry for the rest of the evening. To finish we shared a chocolate brownie and ice cream, which as you can imagine was very yummy. The staff were so accommodating and friendly.

There are three contemporary lakeside dining outlets; The Brasserie, The Old Boathouse and The Lounge & Bar.

The following evening we were presented with another splendid table next to the window, the dining room was beautifully designed and gave full advantage to the stunning lake views, whilst enjoying our gorgeous meal. We decided to order a vegetarian dish; a falafel burger and chips. It was tasty, full of flavour with sweet pickle, avocado and tomato on top of falafel, in a bun along with chips in a bucket, for a quirky finish. My partner had prawn linguine which was artistically presented with many seasonal vegetables. I have to admit we ordered the chocolate brownie again as it was so good!

Wow wow wow. I naturally woke up at 6:30am, the views were perfection and the sunrise was just gorgeous, the colours in the sky were incredible. I have to say it was one of the best mornings I have experienced. I shot up and took some pictures. There was no way I was going back to sleep when I could sit watching this spectacular hour.

We sauntered down to breakfast just after 9am and taken to our window seats again. The breakfast choice was extensive and looked fantastic. This included fully cooked breakfast, pastries, fruit, cereal, cooked meats and cheeses, along with tea, coffee and fresh juice. We planned our day; we thought we would visit some of the nearby towns and take in the local atmosphere. We went to Bourton on the Water, Stow-on-the-wold and Upper Slaughter. I would definitely recommend these, there are some more amazing views.

We returned for a drink in the lounge and bar area, but decided to order room service for lunch to enjoy our bedroom view for just a little longer..

After lunch and a little rest we decided to test the gym and spa out. The gym features everything you need to achieve a full body workout. I went at 5pm on Sunday and there was only five other people using the equipment so it was just the way I like it. Spa6, a tranquil haven with a spa hydro swimming pool, sauna, aroma steam room, heated lounges, experience shower, bucket shower and a full range of luxurious treatments and packages are available. I went down at 5:45pm, it was busy with families and children. I later found out these were the opening times for children, I tried it the next morning at 7:30am and it was perfectly quiet.

It was time to get ready for dinner, but first another chance to indulge in the big bath we had in our room.

We didn’t want our weekend in the Cotswolds to end, we so enjoyed the luxury of being pampered. I would highly recommend visiting The De Vere Cotswold Water Park if you are a nature lover or someone that just needs to escape from life’s daily routine.

The hotel includes free, superfast Wi-Fi with a maximum bandwidth of 1GB available throughout and is just a short 20 minutes from J15 of the M4 and J11A of the M5 with Bristol airport just over an hour away.

Hotel rates start from £109.

Thank you once again De Vere for hosting my partner and I for a wonderful weekend, we will be back, I promise, sooner than you know!
