The IVY Villa Hotel and Spa has earned every one of Its 5 stars
August 22, 2019
A partner and I recently received the opportunity to attend the nature-inspired sanctuary that is The IVY Villa Hotel & Spa ahead of their opening, located at the edge of Sandton. Upon arrival I was met by Leon who warmly welcomed me, taking care of my luggage and answering my many questions, while a valet service assisted as we made our way to reception where Shaun greeted us by name, without it even having to be mentioned as he poured complimentary drinks for my partner and I as we checked in.
You’ll also notice upon arriving, two extremely well trained Great Danes, Duke and Gigi who form part of the furry welcoming team as you pass through the large glass doors of reception into the pet friendly (yes, pet friendly) luxury hotel, hidden away from the busy city life and roads allowing you to truly embrace the tranquillity within the nature-inspired luxury villa. The hotel also spots multiple interesting artworks by artist Anton Smit scattered in and around the hotel adding to the look and feel of each setting.
We were then shown to our premium suite which made us feel truly at home with advanced lighting systems, luxurious interior designs along with a personalized note from General Manager, Lindsay Wright, again welcoming us to their sanctuary. With complimentary WiFi, you’ll also be able to finish any work that you may have from the well-situated table boasting a stunning view of the hotel, or take it a step further and work remotely entirely from the comfort of the suite balcony. If you require any privacy in the form of conferences, there are also meeting spaces with a capacity to seat up to 190 delegates.
Later that evening after a tour of the hotel (where I’d ask another series of questions – all easily answered by our tour guide) we experienced the culinary genius that is Reuben Riffel, who took us on a journey of taste within ‘Reubens’, a restaurant and bar situated just next to the lobby where we dined in style with Reuben breaking down each dish, forming a newfound appreciation for culinary masterpiece within me at this level while a sinfonietta orchestra passionately played in the background. This was an exceptional display of just how world-class restaurants should be run with dishes ranging from starters, to dinner dishes right through to dessert to finish off the night. We also had the opportunity to meet and network with the other guests whom we ended up conversing with well into the night after many of the other guests had left for bed.
The two-day IVY Hotel experience included a visit to the world-class Camelot Spa, just down a flight of stairs – with an easily accessible wheelchair route – that featured illuminated fountains on either side of you as you enter into what can only be described as a serene and therapeutic space with an encompassing aura of relaxation and placidity that washes over you as you walk through the doors. We were in for an experience as we were lead through the spa with a warm cup of tea in hand noticing the soft melodic music and aromatic fragrance that flowed through the treatment rooms and hallways. What came next can only be described as the most relaxing, de-stressing spa experience of my life where I felt as though the masseuse could feel every point of pressure before I could even let her know where to go. I felt myself drifting off, euphorically relaxed thinking to myself “this is what luxury is all about”. Sadly we had to make our way out shortly after to attend meetings later in the day, but we will never forget the level of hospitality and professionalism shown to us by the hard-working teams within this beautiful hotel.
How could a nature-inspired hotel as quiet, serene and architecturally marvellous such as this exist within the city of Sandton? Needless to say, The IVY Villa Hotel and Spa has earned every one of Its 5 stars. It was truly an unforgettable experience.
