The BMW X3 features Technical Superiority and Rugged Sportiness

July 30, 2018

Kenya will soon be introduced to new vehicle models from BMW. Starting with the recently launched 2018 BMW X3 a re-worked X5 is due later in the year. In 2019 we hope to see the all new X7 that will be the marque’s largest 4×4. BMW is sold and serviced here by BMW Kenya that is part of the Simba Corporation.

The BMW X3 Sport Activity Vehicle (SAV) features advanced technologies that seamlessly connects to our digital lifestyle through the smart phone or watch via its ConnectedDrive services and apps. This flexible platform has the ability to transfer mobility-related information, such as addresses from calendar entries on your smartphone to the vehicle. It will enter them automatically as destinations into the navigation system and calculate the optimum departure time for the journey. You will never have an excuse to be late for a meeting. Like in its luxurious saloon siblings you can wave instructions by gestures and voice command.

Aside from its technical superiority the new X3 comes with rugged sporting looks with a shorter front end and wider stance. With 50/50 weight distribution between the front and rear wheels the vehicle promises typical BMW handling. It is an intelligent vehicle with lots of driver assistance tools like steering and lane control, semi automatic braking and active cruise control that helps manage the distance between you and the vehicle ahead in fast and slow moving traffic.

On the inside you get better quality fit and finishes like sumptuous leather and improved comfort levels including three zone automatic climate control and Ambient Air Package with active seat ventilation.

Driving has been tweaked to improve handling and directional stability making it sportier than the vehicle it replaces. You can kit it with the optional M Sport Brakes and a tuned suspension with dynamic damper control to make even sportier.

You will have a variety of engines to choose from starting with two diesel units and three petrol variants. The most powerful petrol powerplant is the M40i that manages 360hp (265kW) and fuel consumption of 8.4-8.2l/100km. The next best performing engine is the 3.0 litre that packs 252hp (185kW) of punch and manages 7.4 l/100km in fuel consumption followed by the 2.0i that will deliver 184hp (135kW) and similarly impressive mileage of 7.4 – 7.2l/100km in combined driving conditions. The diesel engines come with two specs, the 3.0d that delivers 265hp (195kW) and 6.0-5.7l/100km in the combined cycle and a 2.0d that manages 190hp (140kW) and will deliver mileage of 5.4-5.0 l/100kms on the combined cycle.

Key visual differences include the deeper and wider front grill that includes active air flaps to improve cooling and drag as well as LED foglamps. The vehicle now comes with acoustic glass at the front for a quieter interior. You can choose between 3 trim levels, the xLine, Luxury Line or M Sports package.
